Amels signs new 78m fully custom superyacht

By Georgia Boscawen

Dutch superyacht builder Amels has announced that a new 78m superyacht was signed at the 2017 Monaco Yacht Show. Upon completion, which is scheduled for 2021, the new project will be the largest superyacht by gross tonnage built by the Dutch shipyard and the first collaboration between Amels and Espen Øino International.

Although many details of the project remain confidential, initial renderings of the project have been released, Amels has confirmed that the yacht will be approximately 2,850gt, which is 23gt larger than M/Y Here Comes the Sun, which is also five metres shorter than the new project. This means that per meter the new 78m vessel will have 36gt, which is approximately two gross tonnes more per meter than Here Comes the Sun.

“This is a particularly significant contract for Amels and a great compliment for our full custom team,” says commercial director, Rose Damen. “All of us are looking forward to working with the owner’s team and the yacht’s designers to create this beautiful new custom yacht.

“For our team, this is the first time we have collaborated with Amels on a yacht project,” says Espen Øino, who developed the exterior design and general arrangement plan together with the owner. “We are very impressed with the know-how and professionalism that the Amels custom yachts team have displayed during the design development and negotiations and I look forward to working together making this vessel a unique custom yacht we can all be proud of.”

The in-house Full Custom team is responsible for the development of the naval architecture and engineering of the 78m project. While, the owner has selected Zuretti Interior Designers to create the yachts interiors.

“We are very proud of the trust that the owner and Amels shipyard has placed in us when selecting our design studio to take part in this project,” says François Zuretti. “Being involved with the new generation of custom made Amels yachts is another great opportunity to pursue our commitment to developing unique yachts that are also contemporary, comfortable, functional vessels with distinct ethnic notes.”
